Alberta Referendum

Alberta Referendum

The only way for Alberta Independence is to have a successful Referendum.  A referendum can be called by the Alberta Government or be forced through a Citizens Initiative.

A Citizens Initiative forces a provincial referendum when 4 conditions are met:

  • 600,000 signatures (20% of the people who voted in the last Alberta Election) are collected in Alberta
  • 2/3 of the ridings (58 of the 87 ridings) exceed the 20% mark – see link for signature details per riding.
  • Signatures must be in person – no electronic signatures allowed.
  • Signatures must be collected within a 90 day window.

In order to achieve a successful citizens initiative to force an Alberta referendum on Independence, Canvassers to collect the signatures in every riding and community need to be in place prior to the 90 day window opening.

To make it easy for the citizens to sign the citizens initiative, the focus is on 2 types of Canvassers:

  • Businesses with store fronts that are open Monday - Friday
  • Individuals that will occupy public spaces and events on the weekends

Canvassers requirements are:

  • Alberta Resident
  • Canadian Citizen
  • Over 18 years of age
